Nissan ProPILOT Assist uses a single forward-facing camera mounted on the windshield itself at the top center, just below the rearview mirror — like Toyota Safety Sense and Honda Sensing, but on the Nissan platform that also handles ProPILOT 2.0 hands-off driving on the 2023+ Ariya. Removing your windshield detaches the camera bracket (or breaks the bond to its old glass mount) and the geometry Nissan established at the assembly plant is gone. Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, ProPILOT Assist adaptive cruise with lane centering, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Lane Departure Warning now operate on incorrect geometry — silently. On 2022+ Pathfinder and 2023+ Ariya equipped with the grille-mounted millimeter-wave radar, the radar re-aim is a separate required step. Nissan ProPILOT Assist is a driver-assistance suite built around a single forward-facing camera mounted on the windshield itself at the top center, just below the rearview mirror. The camera reads lane geometry, the lead vehicle ahead, traffic signs, and on newer trims pedestrians in the camera's field of view. ProPILOT Assist fuses that camera data with the vehicle's own speed and yaw sensors to deliver adaptive cruise control with lane centering — the system accelerates, brakes, and steers to keep the vehicle centered in its lane relative to a lead car. On 2022+ Pathfinder and 2023+ Ariya, ProPILOT adds a millimeter-wave radar sensor mounted at the front grille (often hidden behind the Nissan emblem). On ProPILOT 2.0 — currently available on the Ariya — the system adds hands-off single-lane highway driving under geo-restricted conditions, plus traffic sign recognition and 360° surround sensing. The forward camera geometry is calibrated to within a fraction of a degree at the factory. Every windshield replacement detaches the camera bracket from the car (or the bracket comes with the old glass), and the precise Nissan factory alignment is gone. The camera still powers up, the dashboard still shows ProPILOT as enabled, but Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, ProPILOT Assist adaptive cruise with lane centering, Lane Departure Warning, and (on ProPILOT 2.0) hands-off driving are now operating on incorrect geometry.
Single forward-facing camera mounted on the windshield itself at the top center, just below the rearview mirror — a thin single-camera bracket, similar in outline to Toyota Safety Sense and Honda Sensing forward cameras but smaller than Subaru's stereo pod. On ProPILOT-equipped 2022+ Pathfinder and 2023+ Ariya, an additional millimeter-wave radar sensor is mounted behind the front Nissan emblem or in the lower front-bumper pod; the camera alone still drives the lane-centering and AEB-with-Pedestrian logic, with radar confirming lead-vehicle distance. ProPILOT 2.0 on 2023+ Ariya adds a 360° surround-view camera cluster and additional driver-monitoring camera hardware behind the steering wheel. The same windshield-mounted forward camera location is used across Rogue, Altima, Pathfinder, Murano, Sentra, Leaf, and Ariya. That is what makes ProPILOT equally sensitive to windshield geometry changes compared with Toyota Safety Sense and Honda Sensing — less sensitive than Subaru EyeSight (which mounts two cameras in a single bracket and so loses calibration if either camera is even slightly off).
Any glass removal and replacement, windshield bracket adjustment, suspension work, front-end collision repair, wheel-alignment change, or anything that disturbs the camera-to-glass bond invalidates the factory calibration. The forward camera is now pointing in slightly the wrong direction. It will still report data to the ProPILOT control module, but the lane geometry and lead-vehicle distance data is wrong. On 2022+ Pathfinder and 2023+ Ariya equipped with the grille-mounted radar, the radar is independently aimed and that aim is also disturbed after front-end repair or suspension change — radar re-aim is a separate required step on those trims. Nissan does not separately mark which leg was tripped on ProPILOT-Assist-only trims without radar; the OEM published procedure is to recalibrate the forward camera whenever the bracket is disturbed.
Nissan does not always illuminate a dashboard warning when ProPILOT calibration is incorrect — particularly for partial miscalibrations where the camera is off-axis by only a fraction of a degree and the disagreement between the camera image and the radar (where equipped) falls within a plausibility window. Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection will brake at the wrong distance or for the wrong target — including failing to react to a pedestrian stepping off a curb because the camera now sees that pedestrian too late. ProPILOT Assist adaptive cruise with lane centering will pace the wrong lead vehicle or phantom-brake on a clearly clean road; the lane-centering torque may pull the vehicle toward the edge rather than the centerline. Blind Spot Warning may fail to register a vehicle in the adjacent lane or may register a phantom vehicle in an empty lane. Rear Cross Traffic Alert may fire on a parked vehicle behind you or may fail to fire when a vehicle actually is behind. Lane Departure Warning may beep on clean pavement or may go silent when the vehicle drifts across a real lane line. ProPILOT 2.0 hands-off driving on Ariya will disengage more often or refuse to engage in conditions where a properly calibrated system would be ready. Most drivers will not feel anything is wrong until the system fails to react in an actual emergency.
When we remove your Nissan windshield, the ProPILOT forward camera bracket comes with it (or is detached from the glass and must be reattached to the new windshield). Either way, the precise factory geometry Nissan established at the assembly plant is now broken. The camera is aligned to a fraction-of-a-degree tolerance — a 0.5° error at the camera bracket translates to a lane-line position error of several feet at 100 yards ahead, and a lead-vehicle distance error of comparable magnitude at the distances ProPILOT Assist adaptive cruise and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection use. Static target calibration re-teaches the camera where straight-ahead is so ProPILOT Assist adaptive cruise with lane centering, AEB with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Intelligent Cruise Control, and (on 2023+ Ariya) ProPILOT 2.0 traffic sign recognition and hands-off driving react on the road the car actually sees — not a road that is several feet offset from reality. On 2022+ Pathfinder and 2023+ Ariya equipped with the grille radar, the radar re-aim is a separate required step that follows the camera calibration.
A Nissan dealer places the car in a controlled bay at a fixed distance from a printed ProPILOT calibration target board, runs the Nissan scan tool through the ProPILOT re-learn procedure, and re-aims the forward camera to Nissan tolerance. The target board geometry, the on-board diagnostic pass criteria, and the post-calibration report are all Nissan OEM. On 2022+ Pathfinder and 2023+ Ariya with grille radar, the dealer also performs a separate radar re-aim step on the same appointment.

Every windshield-mounted ADAS camera is recalibrated one of two ways. Nissan ProPILOT uses static target calibration only — no driving required. No matter the trim (ProPILOT Assist on Rogue/Altima/Pathfinder/Murano/Sentra, ProPILOT-equipped Leaf, or ProPILOT 2.0 on Ariya), no dynamic road-driven step is part of the OEM published procedure. On 2022+ Pathfinder and 2023+ Ariya that also have a grille-mounted millimeter-wave radar sensor, the radar re-aim is a separate required step after the camera calibration, but it is still performed in-bay — not a road-driven dynamic step.
Vehicle stays on a level lift, on level ground, in a controlled bay. A Nissan-issued printed target board sits at a precise measured distance and height in front of the car. The scan tool drives the ProPILOT forward camera through the re-learn. Result is geometry-precise to Nissan tolerance. No driving required. This is the only calibration step Nissan publishes for ProPILOT.
A scan tool drives a prescribed road-driving routine at a prescribed speed on well-marked roads while the camera module re-learns where the lane lines and lead vehicles actually are. Required by some other brands (Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 on current trims, Honda Sensing on certain trims, GM Super Cruise trims, Ford Co-Pilot360+ BlueCruise trims) but not by Nissan. Nissan ProPILOT does not include a dynamic step in its OEM published procedure. If a shop tells you your Nissan needs a "road-driven" calibration, they are describing a Toyota, Honda, or Ford procedure — not a Nissan one.
ProPILOT Assist is a single-camera suite, like Toyota Safety Sense, Honda Sensing, and Ford Co-Pilot360. Subaru EyeSight is the only one of these four that uses a stereo camera pod. The radar-paired suites (Toyota, Honda, Ford) require radar re-aim as a separate step whenever the camera leg is calibrated; ProPILOT on the base Rogue / Altima / Murano / Sentra / Leaf is camera-only and uses static-only calibration per the Nissan published procedure. On 2022+ Pathfinder and 2023+ Ariya, ProPILOT adds the same radar re-aim step the three radar-paired suites use.

Both cameras in the pod get recalibrated together. No driving required, no radar calibration involved.

Static and dynamic calibration required on most current Co-Pilot360 trims. Front-radar re-aim is a separate required step when Active Cruise Control is equipped. Co-Pilot360+ BlueCruise trims add an extended dynamic calibration step that confirms hands-free driving readiness.
Nissan ProPILOT static target calibration is performed at the same appointment as the windshield replacement. No extra trip, no subcontracted handoff. You leave with documented evidence that your ProPILOT forward camera is within Nissan tolerance — and on 2022+ Pathfinder and 2023+ Ariya with grille radar, a separate radar re-aim report — AGSC-certified doing it, the same way a Nissan dealer would.
Before we touch the glass, we scan your Nissan for stored ProPILOT fault codes and confirm the exact recalibration procedure Nissan publishes for your model year — including which ProPILOT generation your vehicle is on (ProPILOT Assist, ProPILOT with Intelligent Cruise Control only, or ProPILOT 2.0 hands-off driving on 2023+ Ariya) and which target-board geometry Nissan specifies for your trim. We also confirm whether your vehicle has the additional grille-mounted millimeter-wave radar on 2022+ Pathfinder and 2023+ Ariya, which adds radar re-aim to the procedure.
We install OEM-spec glass with the correct ProPILOT forward-camera mounting bracket geometry. Aftermarket windshields without the proper bracket flatness, the correct frit pattern, or the correct camera-boss geometry will introduce camera alignment errors that no amount of post-install static calibration can fully correct — the camera may calibrate within tolerance on calibration day and drift under thermal load or road vibration. For ProPILOT-equipped Nissans, OEM-spec glass is the safe answer.
ProPILOT requires static (target board) calibration — single forward camera, single static step. We set up the Nissan ProPILOT target at the exact distance Nissan specifies for your model year, verify tire pressure / fuel level / ride height are in Nissan spec, and run the ProPILOT calibration procedure through the OEM-compatible scan tool. On 2022+ Pathfinder and 2023+ Ariya that have a grille-mounted millimeter-wave radar, we perform a separate radar re-aim step following the camera calibration. The dealer-vs-third-party question is moot when tooling and procedure match — what matters is OEM-compatible scan tooling and Nissan published target geometry, both of which we provide.
You leave with a documented pre- and post-calibration report — showing the ProPILOT forward camera module passed Nissan tolerance, which ProPILOT generation was calibrated (ProPILOT Assist, ProPILOT with ICC, or ProPILOT 2.0), whether the grille radar was re-aimed on 2022+ Pathfinder / 2023+ Ariya, and the system status at handoff. This is your evidence that ProPILOT Assist adaptive cruise with lane centering, AEB with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Intelligent Cruise Control, and (on ProPILOT 2.0) Traffic Sign Recognition are operating correctly.
